Never has a Hauntology album been more fittingly titled. Schattenspieler translates to ‘shadow players’. Everything about this album plays in the shadows, of light and of the mind and psyche. This is a dark and creepy record. It is unnerving to say the slightest. For example, the careening, teetering archipelagos of synthesizers pinged by hollow, metallic percussion that guides “Antichrist Architecture Management” makes people feel like they’re going crazy or aware of the inception of possession by a demon. I’m not sure I know when a ‘good’ time is for listening to this album, but it is too marvelous to pass up. If you feel up for the haunting, then dive right in.
