Kaboom Karavan

Evil Eye of the Beheaded Crow

{Kaboom Karavan}

when I came upon the wreckage

that dull,

suppressed afternoon

my dreams were possessed,

suffocated even

by odd, twisted family heirlooms:

lacquered insect exoskeletons

single-stringed instruments

of baleen and metal wing flaps

or the perfectly preserved

tooth and claw marks

on the lion tamer’s skull.

essentially, the idolized taxidermia

of an epoch long gone,

yet as tangible as yesterday.

and I pondered only one question…

…could I reanimate

the stories, memories and cherishments

imbued into these seemingly stale artifacts

once given them by

the dead they possessed?
