snippet

there, a woman dancing

between shafts of light, or shadow,

or time and reflection

she sings for somebody’s heart

their sanity and eyes

her lilting words, undone

by the corners that devour sound

and caress

sawed jaws of reptilian fear and grunt

snap at her in the dying echo

she doesn’t see me watching her song

it was an immeasurable distance

when I used to be her muse
